Remembering Kyle Wood: A Life Celebrated in Pownal and Bennington

It is with great sadness that our community reflects on the passing of Kyle Reese Harrison Wood at the young age of 24. Born on November 9, 2001, in North Adams, Massachusetts, Kyle spent most of his life in Pownal and Bennington, Vermont.

Kyle attended local schools, starting at Pownal Elementary, then moving on to Mount Anthony Middle School and Mount Anthony Union High School. He was known for his vibrant spirit and interests, which included a love for Star Wars figurines, climbing trees, and spending time with his family. His brother Shane and he shared many happy moments, including bike rides and long walks with their mother.

A Journey of Resilience

During his high school years, Kyle faced significant health challenges, including a diagnosis of Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH), which led to two skull surgeries and subsequent chemotherapy. Despite these hardships, he remained stoic and focused on enjoying life, often refusing to let his illness define him.

Outside of his health struggles, Kyle had a passion for history and military films, showing a keen interest in aviation and the stories of the past. He had aspirations of joining the Army, but his health limited those plans. He also shared a special bond with his grandmother, often gazing at the stars through a telescope.

Contributions to the Community

Kyle worked at various local establishments, most recently at Starbucks, where he enjoyed connecting with customers and colleagues. He had a keen interest in finance and kept up with market trends, demonstrating his ambition and intelligence.

In his personal life, Kyle valued relationships deeply. He cherished his time with family and friends, including his mother Alena, father Harry, and brothers Shane and Nathan. He was also supported by close friends who understood his journey.

Community Memorial Service

A graveside committal service is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Park Lawn Cemetery in Bennington. Following this, friends and family are invited to celebrate Kyle’s life at a location to be announced during the service.

Kyle’s bright spirit will be missed by many, and we can only hope he knew how much he was loved by those around him.
