Robert James Robinson, a longtime resident of Wilmington, Vermont, passed away at the age of 82 at his home on July 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 17, 1943, Robert was raised in West Wardsboro and graduated from Leland & Gray Union High School in 1961, where he excelled in various sports. He briefly worked at Mount Snow before serving three years in the U.S. Army in Europe. Following his military service, he returned to Wilmington and began a career in carpentry, later joining GS Precision where he worked for 35 years starting in 1970.

Legacy of Love and Gardening

In 1972, Robert married Susan Waldron, now deceased, and they built their life together on Lisle Hill Road in Wilmington. An avid outdoorsman, Robert loved hunting and fishing with his brothers, but he was particularly renowned for his gardening skills. Each spring, he took joy in starting his vegetable plants from seed and generously shared his seedlings and harvest with family, friends, and neighbors. His talent was recognized at the Deerfield Valley Farmers’ Day Fair, where he was honored multiple times as Gardener of the Year.

Although he did not have children, Robert was a beloved uncle, offering support and kindness to his nieces and nephews. His warm spirit and generosity will be missed by all who knew him.

Survived by Family and Community Gatherings

Robert is survived by his brother Harry Robinson and his wife Clara of Jamaica; sisters-in-law Jane Waldron of Wilmington and Connie Kmec of Vernon; as well as several nieces and nephews from the area, including Amber Robinson of North Haven, CT, and Ashton Robinson of Searsburg.

He was predeceased by his wife Susan and brothers Alan and Kevin Robinson.

Services and Memorials

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington, with a celebration of life to follow at the Deerfield Valley Rescue Community Center. A second graveside service will take place at Fairview Cemetery in West Wardsboro on August 8, 2026.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Robert’s memory consider planting a garden and sharing its bounty. Memorial donations can also be made to Deerfield Valley Rescue in his honor.
