Cynthia Vontobel, 85, Remembered in Bennington Community

Cynthia Jane Vontobel, a beloved member of the Bennington community, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, at The Centers for Living and Rehabilitation in Bennington. She was 85 years old.

Born on January 3, 1941, in Hartford, Connecticut, Cynthia was the daughter of Mildred L. Turner and Albert F. Cooke. Raised in Stamford, Connecticut, she was adopted by her stepfather, Clark A. Kathan, and received her education at local schools before continuing at Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Norwalk.

Life and Legacy

Cynthia married Roy Vontobel in Malone, New York, and they shared 25 years of happiness. During her earlier years, she balanced raising her children with work at the town of Darien, FD Rich Corporation in Stamford, and Wagner Pools of Darien.

A devoted Christian, Cynthia found joy in knitting and homemaking, and her greatest pride came from her children and grandchildren. She was known for her strong spirit, good sense of humor, and love for daisies.

Survived By and Contributions

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Roy Vontobel; her children, Scott Preli (Tammy Jo), Jonathan Preli, and Jodi McCue; her stepdaughter, Alexis Vontobel (Michael); along with her grandchildren, Johnnie Brundage (Ashley), Leo Spinelli, Mackenzie McCue, Francesca Preli, and Maggie McCue, as well as her great-grandchildren, Harper and Dylan Brundage. She is also survived by her brothers, Ron Kathan and Clark Kathan.
