North Street crash Bennington VT

BENNINGTON, Vt. NewsWK — First responders had a busy hour on North Street today after two separate, single-vehicle traffic accidents occurred almost back-to-back directly in front of the popular Bennington eatery, “The Freeze.” Both incidents took place within a narrow fifteen-minute window around 1:00 PM.

The Freeze Bennington Crash Involves Commercial Truck and Guardrail Damage

Witnesses report the unusual sequence began just after 1:00 PM. The first incident involved a commercial truck, a black Honda Ridgeline bearing “Lawn Rangers” decals on the door, as seen in image_2.png. According to initial reports, the driver of the truck struck a curb while maneuvering, causing them to lose control. They knocked down a road sign then the vehicle then violently impacted the end of the guardrail across the road from the restaurant.

Photos taken at the scene show the outcome of the crash. image_1.png and image_10.png clearly detail the damage sustained by the public property, with the metal guardrail twisted and mangled near a “No Parking” sign, leaving debris on the grass. The black truck sustained significant damage to its front passenger side. As documented in image_3.png and image_9.png, the impact gouged the bumper, broke body panels, and exposed internal wiring around the fog light assembly.

Subsequent Motorcycle Crash in Bennington VT at Same Location

In a bizarre twist of events, approximately fifteen minutes after the first crash—while traffic was still navigating around the initial scene—emergency services were called back to the exact same location for a second report. A motorcycle operator, traveling on North Street, crashed and “laid down” the bike directly on the pavement in front of The Freeze.

Bennington Police Accident Investigation Underway

While the causes of both accidents are still under official investigation by the Bennington Police Department, the sudden and localized nature of the back-to-back crashes on a busy afternoon is remarkable. It remains unclear if distraction from the initial truck accident played a contributing factor in the subsequent motorcycle wipeout.

Information regarding the condition of the driver of the Lawn Rangers truck or the operator of the motorcycle has not yet been officially released by Bennington EMS, though no life-threatening injuries were immediately apparent to bystanders. Police remain on the scene managing traffic and overseeing the cleanup of the damaged guardrail.
