BENNINGTON, Vt. — On Thursday morning, quick-thinking bystanders in Hinsdale, N.H., aided in saving the life of a 35-year-old man who was seriously injured in an electric scooter accident. This incident underscores the importance of community response in emergencies, especially for residents of Bennington County who often travel in nearby areas.

According to the Hinsdale Police Department, a 911 call was made around 8:57 a.m. reporting an unconscious man on Plain Road. Initially, it was unclear if he had been involved in a hit-and-run accident. However, before first responders could arrive, the bystanders were able to inform dispatchers that the man had begun to breathe again.

Community Response

When emergency services arrived, they found three individuals who had stopped to assist the injured man. Police Chief Melissa Evans commended their actions, stating, “The actions of these individuals more likely than not saved his life.” She noted that by remaining calm and following instructions from the dispatcher, the bystanders were able to prevent further complications until help arrived.

Evans emphasized the kindness shown by the bystanders, remarking, “Everyday people demonstrate that there is a great deal of good in the world. Once again, the best in humanity shines through.” This incident highlights how community members can make a significant difference in critical situations.

Investigation Underway

Authorities believe the man’s injuries stemmed from the scooter accident rather than a vehicle collision, although an investigation is ongoing. The rider sustained a significant head injury and abrasions. After receiving initial treatment from the Hinsdale Police Department, Hinsdale Fire Department, and other local agencies, he was airlifted to Baystate Medical Center for further care.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is encouraged to contact Chief Evans at 603-336-5723.

This event serves as a reminder of the importance of community vigilance and the potential for everyday citizens to respond effectively in emergencies.
